The Mission to Seafarers views the safety of the participants as of the utmost priority and will take the following measures to ensure that the competitors are safe throughout the event experience.
There will be a mandatory kit check and safety briefing on the Friday evening provided by the Course Team. We will go through all the safety measures in place for the race, which include but are not limited to the following:
- Each team is required to carry a GPS tracker at all times while on the course (trackers will be provided onsite at the start of the race start by the Course Team). The tracker automatically communicates with the Course Team the precise GPS location of the team. The tracker must be with you at all time to assist us in locating you during an emergency.
- You must stay together as a team of three (3) at all times during the race. In case of emergency, call the Course Team (number will be provided at the event) and remain as a team of three together in one place.
- There will be course markers/flags placed every 30 meters to aid your team along the route.
- There will be a water station/checkpoint on each route, manned by members of the Course Team.
- A medical team and vehicle will be in the vicinity for support and in case of emergencies. In the case of a serious emergency, the local emergency services will be notified and the MMR Events and Course Team will follow their instructions.
- Each team member must equip themselves with the mandatory equipment listed on the Equipment Page, as a minimum safety standard.
- A detailed safety plan has been created by the race team organisers, to identify risks, and put in place contingency planning for weather conditions, accidents and extractions if necessary.
- It is compulsory to install the ‘echo SOS’ emergency app on your mobile phone. It will be used to locate you by the local emergency services in the event of a serious accident.
