We invite you to take part in our new Maritime Mountain Race raising funds for seafarers’ welfare. As many of you know, seafarers frequently operate in perilous conditions, facing isolation, exhaustion, and both mental and physical health challenges, as well as the looming dangers of abandonment, shipwreck, and piracy. Funds raised from this event will enable us to provide more vital welfare support across the world.
To find out more, please explore this website and download the participant brochure here for a summary. There is the opportunity to sponsor and/or enter one or more teams. There are many advantages to taking part – raising funds for seafarers’ welfare, meeting with like-minded people from the shipping and commodity sectors, camaraderie, team-work, fitness and above all having a lot of fun!
Teams will consist of three competitors, 18 years or older, who must start and finish the race together. MtS welcomes all individuals—regardless of athletic ability—to participate. This presents a great opportunity for team building within your company.
The event starts on the afternoon of Friday 26 June where you will be picked up at Geneva Railway Station and taken to the hotel and event venue in Bouveret.
In the evening, we will start with a mandatory Safety Briefing. The briefing is a high priority for the industry and for the Mission and we urge you to attend as we will need you to sign in so we can be sure we have shared this briefing with all participants. The briefing will be followed by the Welcome Drinks. during which the kit-check station will be open. It is essential to have your kit checked as it will ensure you have all the necessary equipment for the following day. The evening will continue with networking opportunities and a Welcome Dinner.
There will be two levels for the race – the hiking trail and the running trail. The hiking trail is accessible to average levels of fitness and the gradient of the race will take this into account. The running trail is aimed at the more adventurous and those who train regularly and can complete 10K easily on the flat.
The race will start in the back garden of the hotel, with the route taking you straight towards the mountains of Bouveret. During the course, the hikers will be on the less steep gradient, but both trails will encounter peaks, rivers, lakes, and panoramic views over Lake Geneva. The race will finish at the same point you started at the hotel, where you will be welcomed with a participation medal, activities, flowing food from the BBQ and cold beers!
Later in the evening, participants will be able to share experiences at a the Drinks Reception, followed by the Awards Dinner, which is an informal occasion. Suits or tuxedos are not required so we ask you to wear your polo shirts, if possible, for this evening. This will give everyone a chance to exchange stories and experiences. All the Awards will be given at the Awards Dinner, so every reason to be there to collect your award! This is yet another key part of our event, with free seating, a rolling video of the day’s images and new friends sharing a drink or two, the atmosphere will be one of great friendships, as only the industry can do so well!
On Sunday morning you can enjoy the breakfast served and then you will be on your way back to Geneva where you will use planes, trains or taxis to get you home. A time well spent and seafarers ultimately benefitting!
As raising awareness and funds for seafarers is at the heart of the Maritime Race, MtS encourages all teams to embrace the fundraising element of this event. We ask you to raise a minimum of US $5k per team, though some teams may aspire to more. There will be an Award for the team that raises the most money for MtS.
